'Praise is nothing more or less than a commitment to and a confession of the sovereign power and providence of God'

The Debt is Paid By Roger Bye

Recently I came across this by C H Spurgeon, the great preacher of the 19th Century…

I heard a story; I think it came from the North Country: A minister called upon a poor woman, intending to give her help; for he knew she was very poor.  With his money in his hand, he knocked at the door; but she did not answer. He concluded that she was not at home and went his way. A little after he met her at the church and told her that he remembered her need: ‘I called at your house, and knocked several times, and I supposed you were not at home, for I had no answer.’ ‘At what hour did you call, sir?’ ‘It was about noon.’ ‘Oh dear,’ she said, ‘I heard you sir, but I thought it was the man calling for the rent.’

This is  a beautiful illustration of the Gospel! The story of the poor woman mistaking her helper for a debt collector is such a poignant reminder of how we often respond to God. Many of us carry the weight of guilt, believing we are still indebted when Jesus has already paid the price in full. Colossians 2:13-14 captures this truth perfectly—our sins, our "legal indebtedness," have been completely cancelled and nailed to the cross. Yet, like the woman in the story, we sometimes hide, fearing judgment, when Christ comes with grace, freedom, and new life.

This message is at the heart of Easter: not just that Jesus died, but that He rose, proving that the debt is paid, once and for all. Instead of living in fear, we are invited to open the door and receive His gift of life and righteousness. Let’s celebrate His amazing grace!

Lent Lunches

An Evening with Mike Sprenger By Matt Bradley

"It was great to have an evening with Mike, sharing his heart on Revival. Mike has spent many years researching a number of Revival periods in the church. Mike used the research to highlight areas of commonality in the Ulster and Welsh Revivals. Mike shared how Revival always starts with believers (only something already alive can be revived), but moves to touch unbelievers and leads to widespread change in society.

A common theme of Revival starts with a stirring by the Holy Spirit to pray. God's people praying and seeking God. We had an opportunity to pray and worship together and seeking God with a heart to see Revival in our church and communities. Mike did a great job of serving us in this topic, it was a great time meeting new people and also seeing people from different denominations praying and seeking God together."

Regional Day By Jenna Hedley

It was a real blessing to take part in the ChristCentral Regional Day on Saturday 22nd March. As a long-time member of ChristCentral/Newfrontiers churches, one of the key aspects for me has been meeting together, with the strength, accountability and growth that being part of this extended family brings. Saturday was no exception. It was a joy to catch up with old friends, get to know new friends better (by playing bingo with some children!), and to hear from our apostolic team.

We had a great time of worship in the morning where we were blessed with the tangible presence of God, before being introduced to Chris Frost, who is now leading ChristCentral Churches UK. After lunch we shared and prayed with others whose primary way of meeting other people (particularly non-believers) was like ours. This was a great time of connection and a reminder that we are ‘not alone’ in our individual circumstances.

We then had an excellent talk from Chris Frost about the values of ChristCentral churches, and where they come from biblically. My highlight of the day was watching the Holy Spirit interrupt and lead Chris in sharing intimately and prophetically into our gathering.

It was a fantastic day, and I look forward to the next one, as well as Devoted – these times are great for being built up and sent out in the Kingdom of God!
